Voters are giving mixed reviews to Donald Trump's record in office, from his signature tariff policy to how his second term compares with what he promised on the campaign trail.
A new national survey by The Honest Poll finds that 62% of Likely Voters say Trump's tariff policies have hurt the economy, while 23% say they have helped. Eight percent (8%) say tariffs have had no real effect, and seven percent (7%) are not sure.
Views split sharply along partisan lines. Just 32% of Republicans say tariffs have hurt the economy, compared with 88% of Democrats and 71% of independents (after forcing for party leaners). Among 2024 Trump voters, 29% say tariffs have hurt the economy and 45% say they have helped; among 2024 Harris voters, 92% say tariffs have hurt the economy. The divide tracks Trump's overall job approval closely: 95% of voters who strongly disapprove of the job he is doing say tariffs have hurt the economy, compared with just 16% of those who strongly approve.
On whether Trump has kept his campaign promises, 23% of Likely Voters say he has kept more promises than they expected, 41% say fewer than they expected, and 32% say about what they expected. Four percent (4%) are not sure.
The partisan divide is wide here as well. Forty-one percent (41%) of Republicans say Trump has kept more promises than expected, compared with 8% of Democrats, 52% ofwhom say he has kept fewer promises than expected. Independents are the most skeptical group on this measure: just 8% say Trump has exceeded their expectations on promises, while 42% say he has fallen short and 47% say the results are about what they expected.
Asked whether they would vote the same way in a 2024 presidential do-over, 76% of Likely Voters say they would vote for the same candidate, 15% say they would vote for someone else, and four percent (4%) say they would not vote at all. Five percent (5%) are not sure.
Both candidates' 2024 voters mostly say they would stick with their choice, though Harris voters are somewhat more likely to say so: 83% of 2024 Harris voters say they would vote for her again, compared with 77% of 2024 Trump voters who would vote for him again. Independents are the least committed group — half say they would vote the same way, while 27% would choose someone else and 14% would not vote at all.

The survey of 951 Registered Voters, including 812 Likely Voters, was conducted August 29-September 1, 2026, by The Honest Poll, combining an online panel withlive Interactive Voice Response calls, weighted to match known demographic and political benchmarks. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/-3.4 percentage points at a 95% level of confidence; the margin of error is higher for subgroups, including the 7% of respondents who identify as independent.
